miss philippines shamcey supsup is miss universe 2011 3rd runner up

philippines' own shamcey supsup won 3rd runner up in this year's miss universe contest held in sao paulo, brazil. shamcey is one of the 89 contestants from all over the world that competed in the 60th edition of the annual beauty contest.

shamcey was definitely a frontrunner in the competition after her good showing in the preliminary judging. she has participated in most of the contest's major activities, was chosen to be one of the candidates in the press conference and has been loved by the brazilians during the three weeks duration of the competition.

she also got high scores in the fan scoring through the nbc website. she did a good job at the swimsuit and evening gown rounds and gave an amazing answer at the q&a. she was asked if she was willing to change her religious beliefs for the man he loved. she answered that she will not change her beliefs because god is the first person that she loves and her faith and principles are with god. i quote, "if the man truly loves me, he will love my god too."

but in the end, the beauty from general santos city only got 3rd runner. i really think she deserves a higher placing, if not the crown.

this comes after philippines' venus raj placed fourth runner up in the 2010 edition of the pageant.

miss angola, leila lopes captured the miss universe 2011 title.

a must watch: zombadings 1: patayin sa shokot si remington

last wednesday, my marketing officemates brought up the idea of watching a movie on friday. they were clamoring for us to watch the cinemalaya film zombadings 1: patayin sa shokot si remington. so we checked the schedule and decided to watch in megamall at the last full show.

unfortunately, due to the changes in meeting schedules, we were left with no choice but to watch the movie at glorietta still at the last full show. we were surprised that the earlier screenings were already sold out and only a few seats were available for the last screening. we did not anticipate the popularity of the movie.

the movie revolved around remington, who as a child has teased gay people. because of this, a gay man he teased in the cementery cursed him to turn gay when he grows up. 15 years later, a string of hate crimes against gays has been happening in remington's town. having a policewoman as a mother, he was fully aware of the events that are taking place. at the same time, the curse on him is taking effect and he is slowly being "feminized" day after day.

how would remington deal with his attraction to a new girl in town? how will he deal with his new found attraction to his best friend? how will he escape the gay killer in his town? and how will the curse be reversed?

the film is being topbilled by mart escudero, a starstruck alumnus; lauren young and kerbie zamora. support cast includes eugene domingo, janice de belen, john regala, daniel fernando, leandro baldemor, odette khan and roderick paulate. iy is written by raymond lee and directed by jade castro.

the movie was executed well, especially on the build up of how remington slowly turned gay. great performances from mart, kerbie and lauren made the story very believable. the comedic timing of eugene domingo was really great and the support veteran stars was really great, special mention to john regala. but i was quite bored when the zombadings appeared and i think it could have been executed better. the surprise twists was also unpredictable and was really funny.

here is the trailer of the movie:

i am giving the movie a 4 out of 5 stars. so for those who have not watched it, please do so and still catch the movie. it is really worth watching.

To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall."

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, through social networking site Twitter, clarified that August 27 (Saturday) has not been declared a holiday.

biggest loser pinoy edition: joy siy is the 5th contestant voted off

joy siy, a 25 year old business development officer from pasig city, became the 5th contestant eliminated from the reality show biggest loser pinoy edition of abs cbn. the vote came after joy fell below the yellow line with winwin in the 2nd individual weigh in of the reality show.

the glee project: matheus is the fifth person not called back

matheus fernandez, a 19 year old guy originally from sau paolo, brazil, bacame the 5th person not called back in the new reality show, the glee project.

this week's theme is pair-ability, or their ability to be paired up with someone. this week's guest mentor is damian criss, who plays blaine anderson of the warblers in glee. this is the second time that he mentored the contestants. he was also the guest mentor in week 1 (individuality).

in their homework assignment, they were tasked to perform "need you now" by lady antebelum. marissa was declared the winner and has the chance to choose her partner for the video. she choose samuel. so the partners for the duets and their song assignments are as follows:

marissa and samuel - don't you want me by the human league
damian and matheus - the lady is a tramp by sammy davis, jr
hannah and alex - nowadays by chicago
cameron and lindsay - baby it's cold outside by frank loesser

damian and matheus looked awkward since matheus is so small compared to damian and some shots showede matheus and the crotch are of damian. alex looks funny in his transvestite costume. marissa and lindsay each gave their partners surprise kisses, which made cameron cry and call his mom because he felt he had cheated.

in the end, it was only marissa and samuel who was safe. the 3 pairs were again asked to sing a song and sing for their lives:

damian & matheus – "these boots are made for walkin'" - nancy sinatra
hannah & alex – "valerie" – mark ronson and amy winehouse
cameron & lindsay – "river deep – mountain high" - ike & tina turner

after the performances, the bottom 3 was revealed. the bottom three were matheus, cameron and alex. but in the end it was matheus who was not called back. this is the 3rd time that he was inthe bottom three, despite winning 2 challenges in week 1 and 3. this inconsistency and his lack of self esteem made him lose the competition.

mcdonalds online delivery sucks... bigtime!

i have been using the online delivery service for quite sometime now. at first, the network glitches were evident: the slow response time and several errors occur when using the website. but the company has been improving the site and has even included an avatar that you can customize.

but is the service really reliable?

this morning, i woke up before 6am and still feels tired after the game yesterday evening. having no energy to cook, i decided to take the short cut and order breakfast before i go home to laguna. to save on my cellphone bill, i again decided to order online through mcdonalds philippines' online delivery service through its website http://www.mcdelivery.com.ph

so i ordered a 2 pc pancake ala carte and a hamdesal with egg sandwich ala carte. my order was in their system at around 6:25am. after this, they usually call you to verify your order. while waiting for the call, i was checked my mails and played some online games. they called up around 6:57am, 30 minutes after the order was placed.

the call was the routine verification of your delivery details and your orders. then what struck me was when the girl on the other end of the call told me that i still have to wait for 45 minutes to 1 hour for my order. fast food order with total waiting time of 1hr and 15min to 1hr and 30mins? is that considered fast? the girl even said that my order entered their system onlyv at 6:56am.

so i called up their customer service hotline (mcdonald's customer service hotline is 863-5490). i told the girl who answered what happened. she confirmed that my order was placed at 6:25am. but she needs to call the agent on what happened and also the branch to expedite my order.

she called back after about 10minutes and told me that based on the system, my order came in their system at 6:56am, which contradicted her statement before that it was placed in their system at 6:25am. i asked her if their online system is reliable based on this instance, and she said yes. what? you mean this kind of poor service is reliable. so i asked her again several questions answerable by yes or no that would prove if their system is reliable or not. and at the end of the conversation, she agreed that the system was not reliable.

my order arrived at 7:42am, which is an hour and 17minutes after i placed an order. itb was worse than waiting in a fine dining restaurant.

is their system reliable? i would give it to you to judge. the website was launched for the customer's convenience and has been communicated through several tv commercials. but does it deliver the convenience needed? of course not. just hope you improve your delivery service and even more, your customer service.

gma 7 launches its "think before you click" campaign

philippine tv network gma 7 launched its newest campaign, think before you click. the campaign encourages social networking site users to be more responsible in what they post in the internet by thinking before clicking.

having one of the highest number of internet users and social networking site members, the filipinos really needs to be responsible in using and posting in the internet. also recently, a number of crimes were reported to have been perpetrated by persons met by the victims through several social networking sites.

here is an article about the campaign from the gma news online website:

'Think before you click!' GMA urges responsible tweeting
GMANews

The power of social media is also a great responsibility. If you think about how the Philippines is famous for “People Power" — that necessary ingredient that toppled presidents in peaceful revolutions — it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the country is also among the top countries in the world in terms of presence in the social media space.

On Facebook, the world’s largest social network, Filipinos represent some 25 million of the reported 750 million users worldwide, putting the Philippines at 7th place in the world just behind highly populous nations like the US, Indonesia and India.

And while there aren’t any hard numbers to show just how many Pinoy Twitter users there are, expect that number to be high as well (we estimate around 10M), considering how frequently local personalities and topics hit Twitters’ list of worldwide trending topics.

There’s no doubt about it: even online, Pinoys are a force to be reckoned with. But as the popular saying goes, power puts a great responsibility on the shoulders of those who wield it.
From this thesis statement was born “Think Before You Click" — a campaign by GMA News to promote responsible use of social media.

You can be the change you want to see in the online world.Online everything is just a click away. And with one click, whether that be to post a tweet, a new status message on Facebook, or a tag on someone’s photo, we have as much power to tear down as we do to build up.
It's all one easy click away.

So our proposal is simple, to think before you click. Think about the repercussions of what you are about to post, will it hurt others, could it potentially hurt me, or those who I care about the most? It's hard to take back what you’ve posted online, and everything has an effect.
It's time for another “People Power" this time to push for a more responsible use of social media. How can you help? Simple, tell as much people as you can to “Think Before You Click". Here’s how you can do that:

Take a photo of yourself holding up a sign “think before you click" written on a sheet of paper and change that to your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, MySpace or Flickr profile photo. Then upload them to YouScoop.tv.

Add a “Think Before You Click" Twibbon to your Twitter DP.

Tweet us using the hashtag #thinkB4Uclick and tell us how you can be a more responsible user of social media. Or join ongoing discussions on Facebook and Google+.

Record a video of yourself discussing how you can do your part to promote social media responsibility and upload it to YouScoop.tv.

It all starts today folks.

Think before you click. — TJD/HS, GMA News

so think before you click! ok?

the glee project: mckynleigh is the fourth person not called back

19 year old mckynleigh abraham from paducah, kentucky bacame the 4th contestant not to be called back in the reality show, the glee project.

this week's theme is dance ability, where the contenders needs to show their dance talent and their willingness to learn choreography. this week's homework assignment is for them to perform train's hit song hey, soul sister. this week's guest judge is the first new directions member to grace the show, harry shum, jr. he plays new direction's resident dancer, michael chang. after the contenders performed, the stand outs for him were matheus and samuel. but in the end, it was samuel's control and movement that gave him the win.

this week's music video is mc hammer's can't touch this. for a change, the contenders will be rapping while showing their dancing ability. here is this week's video:

i think this is the worst video of the show so far. this week's bottom three are matheus, mckynleigh and alex. matheus is in the bottom three because of what seems to be his divo attitude and the way he snapped at damian during the shoot. mckynleigh simply faded into the background and her performance is still not in the level the mentors wants it to be. alex, who is the best dancer in the group, just fell short of the expectations and gave an okay performance rather than a great performance. their songs for the last chance recital were:

- matheus - down by jay sean
- mckynleigh - last name by carrie underwood
- alex - i will always love you by whitney houston

in the end, it was time for mckynleigh to go home. i think she does not have the personality to be in the cast despite of superb voice. her biracial features and good voice was not enough to save her this week.

rafa santos gives bad comments about theater actors

rafa santos, a 26 year old film maker, gave a bad comment on why he casts theater actors in his movies during an interview in anc.

here is the video:

writing it in verbatim, he said "... I find the theater actors are better to work with because they don’t complain; you can feed them Sky Flakes three meals a day, and pay them in cat food."

after this incident, an open letter surfaced in facebook from theater actor joel trinidad of upstart productions to the cinemalaya, where his short film "samarito" is included in the film festival. here is a copy of the open letter:

Independent filmmaker Rafa Santos needs to be taught a lesson. Not a lesson in filmmaking, as he is obviously competent enough to have been included in this year’s Cinemalaya. Not a lesson in thrift, as he is apparently frugal enough to have produced his film without major backing. Not a lesson in public speaking, as he can definitely hold his own in interviews about the film in question. No, what this man needs is a lesson in gratitude. (He would also do well to acquire some class.)

In a televised interview on ANC this morning, Mr. Santos said he preferred using theater actors in his films, because “you can feed them Sky Flakes three meals a day and pay them in cat food.”

Congratulations, Mr. Santos. You have succeeded in alienating the very actors that have helped you to make your film so cheaply. No theater performer who has heard your egregious statements will ever work with you now. (Apparently, you lack not just gratitude, but also intelligence.)

Mr. Santos doubtless meant his remarks as a joke, but that does not excuse him from having made them. He is insensitive, mean-spirited, and divisive—qualities that do not become the artistic institution that Cinemalaya has become. We would appreciate it if you removed his film from your festival.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Joel Trinidad

here is the music video for the week:

in the end, the contestants in the bottom three were damian, cameron and emily. damian and cameron was called out due to their lack of connection to the song. emily was called due to her lack of focus during the shoot. they were asked to sing the following songs:

damian - are you lonesome tonight by elvis presley
cameron - your song by elton john
emily - grenade by bruno mars

it was a pretty tough week since all did a good job in their last chance auditions. but in the end, it was emily's lack of focus that made her not get the call back.
