2016 RIO OLYMPICS : SPORTS 5 REPORTERS LIA CRUZ AND MAGOO MARJON ROBBED AT THE MEDIA VILLAGE

Reporters of official Olympic partner network TV 5 / Sports 5 has been burglarized while covering the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Filipino broadcasters Lia Cruz and Magoo Marjon has been robbed of cash from their rooms at the official media village while covering the sports meet. The rooms were said to be controlled by biometrics and only the room occupants should have access to each room.

Unfortunately, it was revealed that housekeeping also has access to the rooms - according to the village management.

Cruz reportedly lost 400 euros (approx. PhP21,000) while Marjon lost 600 euros (approx. PhP32,000).

In her Twitter account, Cruz confirmed the reports :
This is not the first time that robbery was reported in the Olympic village. The Australian team was robbed of laptops and shirts during a fire evacuation in their assigned village. A Chinese athlete and cameraman was robbed of their luggages and camera equipments. The Denmark team was also reported to lost laptops, gadgets, bed sheets and clothes in the village.

I hope the Rio organizing committee steps up and improve the security in the village. No one - especially the athletes - wants to be distracted and stressed during the games.

He will be competing in the Men's 81kg division. He will be flying to Rio as the only judoka and will be 1 of only 2 martial arts athletes, the other one is Kristine Alora of taekwondo.

VIRAL VIDEO : THE IRATE UNIT OWNER CONFRONTS CONDO TENANTS

This is a viral video that has been doing popping up in my Facebook feed this week. I do not usually share such videos in my blog, especially since it is exudes negative vibes - which I try to avoid. But what made me post this is that it occurred in one of the nearby condominiums where I live.

Based on what happened, here is my 2 cents worth:

1. I also live in a condominium managed by the same company as where this occurred - as a tenant for 7 years already. As I remembered, tenants are oriented on the rules and regulations of the condominium. Though we are not given a copy of the book, we know the rules and we do abide by the rules. I have observed several unit owners violating the rules aswell - so I do not see the point why he needed to discriminate the tenants.

2. I was quite offended by the fact that he said, "... anytimepwede kayo umalis, pwede kayo tumakbo..." As a tenant, we are required by the management to have a written, signed and notarized contract. This is law binding and for me, I follow the contract to the last detail. My unit owner and I have a good relationship - for 7 years and counting. I do not even provide post dated checks to her, I just deposit my rent to her account mothly - and I seldom fail to do so. It is unfair to generalize that all tenants run away from their unit owners.

3. As far as I know, in the common areas - the lobby, pool area, the gym and the function hall; you are free to take pictures since these are common and public areas. I do not remember any rule that prohibits anybody to take pictures on these areas, unless you intentionally take pictures of the units that are in the proximity or close to these areas.

4. There is a guard that was present during the confrontation (the guy in the black uniform that is trying to pacify the unit owner) but actually failed to control the situation. He should have brought the argument to the admin office and not in a public place. I think the guards still needs traning on situation control and management.

5. No one has a right to publicly humiliate someone irregardless of race, sex, social status or anything - period.

2016 RIO OLYMPICS - GOOD LUCK TO THE FILIPINO ATHLETES

As the games officially start today and the games officially open in a few days, I would like to extend my good luck to the 12 hero Filipino Olympians this year who braved the risk of Zika virus and will carry our flag in this year's competition.

Hope this is the year we end our 20 year medal drought. Do your best and may you take home a medal, what ever color it is.

AFF SUZUKI CUP 2016 : GROUPING KNOWN AFTER THE DRAW

The groupings for the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup was known after the draw was finished tonight. This year's group stage will be co-hosted by Myanmar and the Philippines. The draw was made in Myanmar tonight.

The participants were drawn from 4 pots. Pot 1 contain the 2 host countries - Myanmar and the Philippines. This will also determine where the groups will play their group stage games. The other pot pairings are based on their performance in the past AFF Suzuki Cup championships. Pot 2 contains Malaysia and defending champions Thailand. Pot 3 contains Singapore and Vietnam. Pot 4 contains Indonesia and the winner from the qualifier (either Brunei, Cambodia, Laos or Timor Leste). Each country will be drawn either to group A or B so the countries in the same pot will not be drawn together in a group.

The grouping is as follows as posted in the AFF Suzuki Cup official Twitter page :

I think the Philippines has been drawn into the harder group - with defending champs Thailand, former champions Singapore and Indonesia.

The group matches will be played in Yangon and in Bocaue / Manila on November 19 - 26, 2016.

UPDATE :

Here is the schedule of games for the Philippine Azkals, all games will be played at the Philippine Stadium in Bulacan :

November 19 - vs Singapore
November 22 - vs Indonesia
November 25 - vs Thailand

2016 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WOMEN'S CLUB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP : CES MOLINA AND MIKA REYES GETS LAST TWO GOLDEN TICKETS

Petron volleybelle Ces Molina and F2 Logistics and former Green Archer middle blocker Mika Reyes received the last 2 golden tickets and completes the line up of 7 local Pilipinas Super Liga players that will be included in the Philippine Team in the upcoming 2016 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship.

Molina was a surprise addition to the team as her name was not as commomnly included in some of the sportswriters and fans wish list. This spiker from Nueva Ecija and a former San Beda Red Lion from NCAA is a reliable attacker of Petron. She will definitely contribute to the team in this aspect but we still need to see how her skills measure up with much taller blockers that are playing in the tournament. She is also part of the Petron team that competed in the Asian Club championship earlier this year. Her inclusion to the team was announced last July 24.

The last golden ticket recipient was announced last July 28 when the league was in Batangas. The includion of Reyes, who is a reliable middle blocker and has been a consistent block points provider to her team, is no surprise to many. She was also named as the league's ambassador, replacing her F2 Logistics teammate Cha Cruz.

The local players are now complete - Rachel Ann Daquiz, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Kim Fajardo, Jen Reyes, Jaja Santiago, Molina and Reyes. They will be joined by 7 other imports who are still to be named.

The tournament will be held here in the Philippines on October 18 to 23, 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Congrats Ces and Mika!
