review: the glee project

who doesn't want to be a part of the most popular television series today and still keep your individuality and celebrate your uniqueness?
this is the premise of the new reality show "the glee project"; the search for the new stars that would enter the popular television show, "glee". the show premiered tonight here in the philippines at etc. the show starts with the very tedious audition process where they asked glee fans to upload audition videos through their site. as expec
ted, thousands of fans and aspirants uploaded their videos. they got more than 30,000 videos and screened them one by one. they also had an open auditions in chicago where also thousands came to audition.

after this, they got the top 80 auditionees and got them on a glee bootcamp. they got into dance a dance rehearsal and was vocally coached by glee's dance choreographer and voice coaches. then they had to face the judges for the final auditions. the audition process really showed how unique and different each person was and how glee really values individuality.

so from there, the top 12 was chosen to be the contestants:

1. mckynleigh abraham, 19, kentucky
2. matheus fernandes, 20, georgia
3. samuel larsen, 19, california
4. damian mcginty, jr., 18, ireland
5. hannah mclalwain, 19, north carolina
6. cameron mitchell, 21, texas
7. alex newell, 18, massachusetts
8. lindsay pearce, 19, california
9. emily vasquez, 20, new york
10. bryce ross johnson, 22, california
11. marissa von bleicken, 19, new york
12. ellis wylie, 19, illinois

they moved in together into a dormitory and was immediately given a homework. the week's lesson was on individuality. they were each given a line in "signed, sealed, delivered" and they need to sing these lines based on their personality. the guest judge for this episode is glee's lead warbler, darren criss. after the performance, he chose matheus as the winner. he had one on one time with darren and he gave him tips on how to project on the camera.

after that, they were informed that they will be creating a glee inspired video of katy perry's fireworks. they then had dance rehearsals and recoding and shot the video. the concept of the video was the yearbook pictorial, so each has to play a role on what they will be on glee and on the yearbook.

the mentors then chose the bottom three. all would get a call back except for the three, which will perform to keep them alive in the competition. in this episode, the bottom three were bryce, ellis and damian. they were assigned songs to sing for their performance. the song assignments were:

bryce - just the way you are
ellis - big spender
damian - jessie's girl

they only had a few hours to rehearse. all of them did a decent job but one will go home first. unfortunately, it was bryce's time to go, mainly due to his attitude problem all through out the week.

the show seems interesting since all the cast are really unique in his and her own way. but despite their individuality, viewers can still relate to one or two of these contestants. the fact that these guys would possibly appear on glee next season makes it more exciting. hope the show continues to give that light mood and excellent production numbers. it is also very refreshing to see how positive the judge's comments are to the contestants and the great bonding that the cast members had in such a short time being together.

hope to see charice as a guest judge in the future episodes and of course, the lead cast. i would surely love if even sue sylvester can come over to help these kids. i would definitely watch it again next week. it's a good thing that etc is showing it as match airing, the same schedule as it is shown in the united states.
